Aidli ‘Alin’ Mosbit started working in theatre at age 17 as a member of Youth Theatre Singapore & STARS and graduated with a degree in Drama from Queensland University of Technology (Brisbane, Australia).
Aidli writes, directs acts, teaches, designs lighting and costume, and has produced arts education programmes for schools. Aidli has devised, written and directed her own plays such ‘Ikan Cantik’, ‘… Dan Tiga Dara Terbang Ke Bulan’ (which was chosen to represent Singapore at the Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theatre 1997) and ‘Main2’ (commissioned by Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay for the Pesta Raya 2002).
As part of the 2005 Singapore Arts Festival Main Programme, she wrote and directed ‘Impenjarament’, which was staged at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. She has worked extensively with many local theatre companies like The Necessary Stage, Teater Kami, Wild Rice, Cake Theatre, Toy Factory, The Theatre Practice, Teater Ekamatra and Drama Box. Together with Noor Effendy Ibrahim and Alfian Sa’at, Aidli published an anthology of Malay plays in the book, BISIK. She is also an experienced practitioner of Forum Theatre. In 2005, with the help of World Bank and The Necessary Stage, she went to Banda Aceh to help facilitate the use of Forum Theatre as a rehabilitative tool for trauma-stricken communities in post-tsunami provinces of Aceh. She has toured to Scotland, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Romania, Hong Kong and Hungary, performing Singapore-brand theatre. In2007, Aidli was involved in two restaging of iconic Singaporean works, namely Titoudao by Toy Factory and Off Centre by The Necessary Stage. Aidli also received the Best Production Of the Year Award at the 7th Life! Theatre Awards for her performance in Fundamentally Happy.
Najib Soiman (bijan), The Artistic Director
Muhammad Najib Bin Soiman or better known as bijaN is currently an arts educator and a freelance theatre practitioner. His first foray into the Arts in 1993 was in Dikir Barat with the group Kelana Purba. Since 2003, he has freelanced for a myriad of theatrical performances, locally and overseas.
As a bilingual, talented and creative person who’s soul is in the Arts industry, he has brought victory to numerous schools of all levels in the various forms of national competitions. He is a panelist for Singapore Writers Festival and he was invited as a judge for Short Stories Competition organized by NTU.
The youngest ever director to lead an annual musical event,Gentarasa 2007, organized by People’s Association and Mesra, Najib's touch clinched tremendous reviews in the local newspaper Berita Harian. His collaboration with Gamelan Asmaradana for Pesta Raya 2005 for the play “Lelembut” was a sold out run.
Najib is also a regular participant of the Singapore Arts Festival as playwright, director and performer. He is also very active in the traditional musical scene and have performed in several festival overseas. He aspires to have his own theatre company and be a filmmaker one day.
Mohd Zulfadli (big), The Associate Director
Mohammad Zulfadli Bin Mohd Rashid or Big, as he is known to his peers, is an arts and language educator, theatre practitioner, freelance writer, translator and photographer.
A beneficiary from Teater Ekamatra's first playwright mentorship programme, Big has carved a name for himself in the Malay literary and performance arts scene as an artist whose works are whimsically thought provoking.
As a playwright, he has represented Singapore in the 2005 MABBIM playwriting convention held in Bandung, Indonesia. He was also a featured writer/poet in the 2005 Singapore Writer's Festival where his poetry has received accolades from the public. His most recent performance was in December 2007, in the forum theatre, Trick or Threat, a production by Drama Box.
Recently, his short story, 'Zan Mysterio' was selected as one of the winners for a Malay short story competition organised by the television channel, Suria and was adapted into a television drama.
